Cannot set vino preferences in Lubuntu 18.04

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Same problem here, but with Xubuntu 18.04.

Xubuntu 18.04 :

utilisateur@ordinateur:~$ vino-preferences
vino-preferences : commande introuvable

Without that, how to enable desktop sharing, how to set a vnc password ?

I'm trying x11vnc but its thousands options are not easy to deal with.

And I just discovered Tigervnc is now available in Ubuntu-repository but am not sure how to make it autostart with session in my quite simple user-case…

Vino was rather simple and efficient for my little usage.

You can downgrade to version 3.8.1-0ubuntu12 from the xenial repos and it will work on bionic.

I had that same issue with xubuntu after 18.04 upgrade. First install vino. Mine was removed on upgrade without any notice. Also even after installing vino, the command vino-preferences doesn't work. Here is an easy workaround. Install dconf-editor then open it and go to org-gnome-desktop-remote access and turn off encryption. There are also several other remote options you can set in dconf-editor. However until you install vino, the remote-access doesn't show in dconf-editor. I hope someone can explain what happened to vino-preferences.

The settings for vino got moved into the general gnome desktop
preferences, and vino-preferences was removed without thinking about
those of use who don't use gnome :(

Same to Lubuntu and Mint

You can use another vnc server that the GNOME one for those usecases...

Why "low", it's very annoying. Gone seems support for low end..

Low because
- i doesn't impact the default Ubuntu Desktop
- it's easy to workaround by installing another vnc server

Xubuntu 18.04 :

You can downgrade to version 3.8.1-0ubuntu9 from the xenial repos (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/amd64/vino/3.8.1-0ubuntu9)

1. sudo apt remove vino
2. sudo apt install <path>vino_3.8.1-0ubuntu9_amd64.deb

after which it works with 'vino-preferences' command.

I am disappointed vino is now incompatible with Lubuntu, apparently due to an arbitrary decision or possibly a simple oversight. With respect, "workaround by installing different software" could be said of any bug.

Hello I also had the same problem but the cause was the desktop I use kubuntu 19.10 and obviously KDE desktop when installing came I saw the suggestion to install an additional program for wine which allows its configuration in gnome and when trying to install this program suggests installing all the gnome desktop hahaha, solution? install krfb which is for KDE and that's it.
