This happens totally reproducible (100%) on any 12.10 that I have at the moment of plugging in broadband modem D-Link DWM-156 A6.
I reported it on usb-switch forum and was encouraged to file it against the distribution.

I added the i386 tag, since it happens on all and any machine here, including Intel Atom.
