usb_modeswitch_[6067]: segfault at 0 ip 00007fed729a4101 sp 00007fffff6fc738 error 4 in libc-2.15.so[7fed7291b000+1b5000]

This happens totally reproducible (100%) on any 12.10 that I have at the moment of plugging in broadband modem D-Link DWM-156 A6.

I reported it on usb-switch forum and was encouraged to file it against the distribution.

I added the i386 tag, since it happens on all and any machine here, including Intel Atom.

Very similar to Bug #1155975 , but running 13.04 and newer libc

usb_modeswitch_[2088]: segfault at 0 ip b758b6f1 sp bfdb7fcc error 4 in libc-2.17.so[b750d000+1ad000]

Yep.
(But check your bug number. Here it says this bug number is unknown.)

Would be good if 13.04 allowed mod switching!

I am not sure it is related, and I cannot test now since I don't have the HDSPA modem anymore, but on my pc I had the same problem (segfault in dmesg, no way to use it) and it started working just after I've run

sudo update-alternatives --config gcc

and choosing 4.7. I had also 4.6 installed (and set as default) because of CUDA 5.
