Bug Description

Binary package hint: usb-creator

Start Up Disk (usb) Creator is creating images which on some PCs are non bootable.

(If I use 8.04 with usb creator 0.1.10~hardy1, the same iso image and the same usb stick I always get a bootable image.)

Paul, even though this bug report is a duplicate of bug #574673 could you please let me know if you get a blank blinking underscore _ cursor, a "Could not find kernel image: Linux" error message (as in Bug #574673) or a "no operating system" error message (as in Bug #326701).

komputes,

OK, looking back at a couple of (literal) screenshots and some brief notes that I made yesterday.

If the usb is formatted FAT16 and I choose "Make Startup Disk" then the resultant usb if mounted shows all of the files, gparted shows that it is fat16, bootable. This usb fails to boot with a simple "Boot error" message.

If the usb is formatted FAT32 and I choose "Make Startup Disk" then the resultant usb if mounted shows all of the files, gparted shows fat32, bootable, lba. This usb fails to boot with the "Could not find kernel image: linux"

If I choose "Erase Disk" followed by ""Make Startup Disk" it looks as if it defaults to FAT32 and the error message is "Could not find kernel image: linux"
