Binary package hint: update-manager
During the upgrade process from 6.06 "Dapper" to 6.10 "Edgy" using the gksudo "update-manager -c" method, upon reaching the configuration file for the nfs-kernel-server a window pops up with a dropdown list asking what I would like to do about the configuration file. If I select show the differences, these differences are echoed to the terminal window where the update process is happening. If you move the top window with the drop down list over to the side to see the terminal and then move it back, the widow does not redraw and all its buttons and choices are gone. The only way to proceed is to click to close the dropdown choice window. You then get a sub process post-install script returned error exit state message. You click to close that and then hit q in the update terminal. The upgrade process will continue until it gets to configuring the new nfs server where the whole update process suddenly aborts with an error message that your system may be in an unstable state. The update manager icon to restart the system for changes to take effect is present. On restart the system booted normally into x and I did a reinstall of the nfs-kernel-server package. I have not yet tested to see if the nfs server is working correctly. Following is my /var/log/dist-upgrade.log:
