Bug Description
I'm behind a firewall and can connect to the internet via a proxy, which i have configured in gnome.
Proxy-aware applications like Synaptic use it, update-manager does not.

I had same problem.
Applying proxy settings "System Wide" force aptdeamon to use proxy settings so update-manager can connect to Internet.
I think that users expect that aptdeamon uses proxy settings without pushing "Apply System Wide" button, as older Ubuntu versions.
