could you please do an `apport-collect 756510` in a terminal to attach a ton of info to this bug report. also, when you log into classic gnome and everything is working can you do a ps aux |grep compiz, and attach the output to this bug report?

I should add that I have since intalled gnome3, so I have no access to unity anymore...

curiously enough, I have a similar problem in gnome3, but now some of the windows are black.
Better said, if I open google chrome it is sometimes full black, but I can still click on the place where the button is to close it. If I resize the window, I might end up at a place where the window is in such a size that it's contents are visible again. If I resize PAST that size, it will becom black again.

Sometimes, I just have to log out and in again, and the same program will be ok.

This has happened with several programs, under gnome3

I am quite sure this is a driver problem, since this never happens in gnome classic, which is not so resource intensive...

just let me add, I removed the gnome3 ppa, so back to standard natty beta2, and I tried that ps aux again, with these results:

Unity is still the same, I failed to say that the content of the windows are white, but the title bar is correct. Apparently, everything else is working fine, except the window (and window borders)

do you get the issue using the "nouveau" opensource nvidia driver?

never tried nouveau...

today I tried to deactivate the nvidia propreitary, and spent the whole day trying to get the computer to work...

I have read a lot of different ways to set up nouveau, so can you help me with the most correct way? dont want to be stuck without computer again... :S

I have same issue with Unity in 11.04 (no issue in Gnome Classic).

If I have a one window of any program open, no problem usually. When I start getting multiple windows, its like some sort of limit is reached and further windows are rendered white. If i resize windows to make them smaller, it fixes the issue sometimes, but when maximised or made larger they go to being rendered white.

See attached screenshot for example. Firefox is rendered white on the right hand side, but if I resize it to make it smaller it renders correctly. I am also running the propriety nvidea driver and have dual display.

@Ben: could you answer some questions to help us to confirm that you're facing the same problem as the original reporter?

* Have you installed the GNOME 3, as Bruno did?
* Does the problem happen when using only one monitor too?
* Could you run on terminal the following command and paste the output here? Commands (without quotes):
 1. "sudo lshw -c display"
 2. "ps aux | grep compiz"

The screenshot on the right is exactly what I get. Plus, the windows have all the functionality. I can click on shortcuts, and open a web site, for example. Just the window is all white. But the cursor will change to a hand when I am over a link...

In Gnome, if I would resize the image to a precise size, I would get the image back. But I had to get the right size...

Very weird...

From what I was testing I realized it is happening when more that x (number is changing) other windows are running.
Sometimes it helps to resize to smaller window (newer helped to resize to bigger) or if this doesn't work closing one or more other windows always helped

Sorry for the delay. I was waiting for the final release of 11.04. Problem still exists.

I have not installed Gnome 3. I am running 11.04 with Unity, but I must login to Ubuntu Classic to avoid this problem.

How Roman describes it is exactly how it affects me also.

Probably a problem with nVidea driver (so, this should be a duplicate of bug #753144).
