Dash search doesn't find anything

No matter which category is chosen (home, application, files, music ...), nothing is found. Even if no single character is entered, nothing is offered. E.g. if I search for 'term', 'xterm', 'gnome-terminal' (or 't', 'x' or any other character), nothing is offered at all. Not even something that I'm not looking for. Dash results are always empty.
