Bug Description

Now the new Video Lens sources in Precise are:
"YouTube Movies", "TED Talks", "\u641c\u72d0", "RTVE", "Encuentro", "3sat Mediathek", "YouTube Education", "VODO", "Crunchyroll", "SCI-FI-LONDON", "YouTube Shows", "Vimeo", "Bing Video", "Dailymotion"

They seems to be fetched from here:
http://video.u1.to/v0/sources

It should be really nice to provide a way to customize those sources in a localized ISO, like radios in Rhythmbox using ubuntu-defaults-builder
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-defaults-builder

summary: - Allow the Video Lens sources customization

It's currently hardcoded in /usr/lib/unity-scope-video-remote/unity-scope-video-remote

It should check a file first (which ubuntu-defaults-* supplies) and fall back to the hardcoded value if no file exists.

Martin, it's not hardcoded, the list of sources is currently provided by http://videosearch.ubuntu.com/v0/sources , based on your IP geolocation.
I agree that it should be handled better, probably by matching these sources to a list of potential translated strings. Or server side.

I'm adding Candiru (the server project) to the bug report.

Rephrasing : it's not hardcoded, in the client.

For the lokalised Dutch(NL) ISO we are looking for something like this as
well. Now we have custom radio stations, bookmarks, etc.

At the moment I wrote a custom lens[1] to search Dutch TV programs. I
presume we definitely need custom code, because each dutch website has its
own format of presenting the search results. So for each website I wrote
custom Python code to parse the results.

I'm not sure if I fully understand this issue. If this functionality will
become available , can we (the Dutchies) can make use of this as well? Or
do you recommend to keep our custom package for a lens, or scope?

If you find interesting sources providing an API, you should open a bug on the Candiru project (https://bugs.launchpad.net/candiru) to ask for it. It could become included by default for everyone, or depending on your geolocation.

You could also turn the lens into a scope for the video lens and make it available in the Software Center. If you need any help with it, I'll be happy to provide some.

I don't think the video lens still makes sense in the next context with Unity8 or that I will take time to work on this. please feel free if anyone is interesting into it to have a look :)
