Bug Description

OS: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric stable 32-bit

I'm using the Faenza-Dark icon theme. I uninstalled Thunderbird (for which there exists a Faenza icon), but it pops up as a suggested application in the applications lens. However, here, it does not use the Faenza icon. Ditto for other applications for which there exist Faenza icons.

It is important to note that while the Ubuntu Software Centre's icons show Faenza by default, the Dash's recommended applications' do not.

Right now the Applications lens displays the exactly same icon as that given by software-center (which provides the lens the icon in the package) even though the software center might display a different icon.

Mikkel / Niel: Should this behavior be changed?

To make my comment more clear:

1) The lens queries software center for the "apps available for download"

2) Software center provides the lens the same icon as that one inside the package, i.e. the icon is usually the default one and doesn't respect user themes

3) If the user opens software center itself, software center may display a non-default icon if the user icon theme is different.

Should we change this behavior?

I believe it should, else there will be a dichotomy between what the user sees before and what he or she sees after installation. I don't think it should be too difficult, considering that the USC obeys it.

This will, however, be moot if Apps Available for Download is removed in Precise.

Hello,
as part of the bug clean up ahead of 16.04 LTS, I'm marking this as invalid because it affects an Ubuntu release which is now unsupported. If you can still recreate this bug in a supported release, please do open a new bug and we can triage it for consideration in the 16.04 LTS development cycle.
