Unity Fails to Boot; Cud access the desktop after choosing unity-2d-shell

Bug Description

Environement:

1. Start the system
2. Provide the password and the Unity 12.04 provides a black screen. Doenot navigate to Desktop
3. Shutdown and restart. Same problem
4. repeated more than 3-4 times

Workaround:
1. Provide password and change the option from default to Unity-2D. Able to login to the system and system directs to my Desktop finally
