U1 applet provides absurd reports on number of files to sync

Bug Description
Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client
U1 is performing its first sync since linking this computer. While it has 1.6GB worth of files (many thousands) to sync it tells me "Updating 4 of 6 files" then "U1 has finished updating 6 files" then "Updating 1 of 1 file" etc. etc. This provides absolutely no useful information on how many files are to be synced and what the progress is. It is also impossible to tell when it is in fact done.

Also, at present the applet is telling me "Your files are up to date" (they are decidedly not), while u1sdtool reports active transfers (of directories it seems):
