Bug Description

On Natty and older, the system volume sound was higher, on oneiric it's SO low.
Even on 100%+ it's low.
I can run tests on it if you want it or need it.

I think the problem is not just appearing on ubuntu distro but also on most distros' latest version. I tried ubuntu 11,debian 6,Fedora 16, linuxmint 12 archlinux etc,and all of them had low volume compared with windows7. The maximum volume is just like whispering especially on those laptops with intel onboard audio. Maybe the problem is relevant to the kernel 3.0.

Same here, whereas sound level is normal on Centos 6 (kernel 2.6.32). Same observation as Lee, newer distro all have this issue. Maybe a permanent fix won't make it to this release but a documented workaround (if any exists) would be more than welcome.

I can also confirm this bug and or issue,,, sound works but is incredibly low with intel onboard audio. I think the issue may be,,, at least for me that the external audio control is tied to the laptop speakers. In other works my laptop speakers do not work unless external audio mixer is unmuted..

however if i plug speakers into the headjack , external audio mixer can be muted and i will still hear sound. So it seems that it could be treating intel audio boards as external audio which only gets so loud because its expecting to be routed to and external amp which its not its going to the speakers.....

Currently you can not "turn up the volume" when you select external amplifier. So the usual mixer utilities do not work... In my scenario which may be everyones similiar scenario it would seem that sound is being routed to the wrong output .... not sure if there is any kind of work around but if there is i can't find it after days of scouring.

Hope something pops up.
