Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-dev-tools

I was made aware of ubuntu-qa-tools today. Not only is QA an important part of development, but many of the tools seem like they would be useful to me doing development independent of doing QA on development.

I would like for ubuntu-dev-tools to recommend ubuntu-qa-tools to raise awareness of the package.

depends: Certainly not, that's not required for any of the tools to work and it is wrong to force all u-d-t users to have u-q-t installed
recommends: Maybe, although being installed by default means maybe not
at least suggests: Certainly

Reading the descriptions of the relationships in policy will be informative.

I'm submitting this as an Ubuntu patch because ubuntu-qa-tools isn't currently in Debian (and there's no ITP). This change should presumably go upstream to Debian if/when qa-tools becomes available in Debian as well.

Iain: Yes, you're of course correct. I've updated the bug (and branch) to ask for recommends instead of depends.

ubuntu-dev-tools should only depend or recommend package that are needed by the scripts in ubuntu-dev-tools. To raise the awareness of ubuntu-qa-tools, packaging-dev could recommend it.
