Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I just tried to install UNE 10.10 (Sep 29th live CD) to an external USB hard drive. It was an OEM install. The install finished successfully, then I tried to reboot into the drive. But grub never came up. It just sat at a blinking cursor. Seems like it didn't install grub into the drive?

I'm attaching the contents of /var/log/installer from the drive.

Aha... If I don't tell the BIOS to boot from the external drive (i.e. if I boot from my internal hard drive), I can boot the new installation on the external drive.

But only if I have it plugged in. If I don't, I get:

error: no such device: XXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
grub rescue>

Not sure which bits of this are intentional and which aren't. Close this bug out if it's all intentional.

Yeah... sounds like you just put grub in the wrong place.

Well, ubiquity installed grub for me without asking me any questions about it. So not really my fault. Either the behavior I got is intentional or ubiquity needs to be smarter or ubiquity needs to ask.
