Totem was unable to read media on first disc inserted. The next one I tried ran very jerkily and started and stopped.

Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

Upon inserting disc it asks what action to take. I selected open totem (or perhaps media player) and got an error message that "An error occurred can not read from resource." Upon inserting a different disc which was not a commercial movie the player did play but in a very jerky and unusable manner.

Running ubuntu 8.10 installed two days ago.

Thanks for the report, what kind of disc was the first one? what's the exact error? could you run totem from the command line and attach the output to the report? and please remember to only post 1 issue per report. thanks.

Hi Pedro,

OK, I inserted a commercial video dvd, an Adam Sandler movie, Chuck and Larry after starting totem from the command line. Here is the result:

I installed libdvdcss2 which solved the inability to "read from the resource" but the video still is too jerky to actually watch a video

I'm guessing this worked fine under Windows OS? So it's not the age of the player and the connection between it and the mboard are fine? I'm guessing that you played HighDef Dvds through your previous OS without trouble?
