I expected menus to have words on them instead of boxes.

Very odd. I can't reproduce this on Maverick/Natty. Have you managed to get Grace working in previous versions of Ubuntu?

Thank you. This was running under tightvnc. I installed vnc4server and it
works fine. Must be an issue with the fonts used by the vnc server.

This should be marked invalid for grace, since it's a problem with tightvnc.
