Thunderbird CPU usage goes up to 100% and keep it that way after an unknown event. I tried using it in safe mode, but the problem is still there.

According to the mozilla irc #maildev people, 15.0.1 should fix this behaviour. Ubuntu update is being tracked here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1049428

I can reproduce this issue as well.. CPU usage is very high with 15.0.

High CPU usage happens to me probably twice per hour during the day when Thunderbird will use 100% CPU and block for up to a minute. Looking forward to a prompt release of 15.0.1 for Precise.

This bug still exists in 15.0.1. Is there a way to downgrade to TB 14? This version did not suffer from this bug.

With TB 17.0, and default setup on Quantal, when thunderbird maxes out at 100% it also causes compiz to max out at 100% cpu - which freezes my other applications too. Especially on my dual-core netbook that's a real pain! I found that blocking of compiz can be avoided by turning off the animations and fading windows effects via the compizconfig settings manager however.

I can confirm that this bug still exists with TB 17.0 and Linux Mint 14 (not really ubuntu, but this sounds like the same problem).
