Bug Description
The texlive-fonts-extra package lists URW-Garamond fonts, but they are not installed. I am using these fonts as math fonts with the mathdesign package and XeTeX (xelatex-xdvipdfmx) on Ubuntu 8.04.
The .vf and .tfm files are installed, but XeLaTeX exits with an error when the Garamond math fonts are used, stating that it is unable to generate bitmap fonts. I checked through the files and discovered that .pfb and .afm files were not installed, and the expected directories were not created by the installer; also, other LaTeX support files from ugm.zip were not unpacked, resulting in no map files for the fonts. Manual installation of the "garamond" package from CTAN resulted in everything working fine.
This bug may be related to #175644 in the context package: "gutsy: URW Garamond TeX tfm file installs, but font cannot be used." My error message appears to be the same.

as you did, the the files are here: http:// www.ctan. org/tex- archive/ fonts/urw/ garamond/
the license may (or may not) be the problem with packaging them up. ctan lists the license as: "Noncommercial: free for private use but commercial use not permitted"
a README note somewhere would help.
