Bug Description

https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-qin-ubuntu-china asks for replacing ibus-pinyin with ibus-sunpinyin for Chinese users by default. I made the change in language-selector bzr for now, but as sunpinyin is in universe right now, I don't upload it yet.

sunpinyin:
 - No Ubuntu bugs, only one non-fatal Debian bug. Still a very young package, but well maintained so far.
 - Dependencies are all in main, except for sunpinyin-data, which is built by the open-gram source and has its own MIR task.
 - Package would need a merge with Debian, but otherwise no big packaging oddities.

open-gram is just two data files, which get compiled with sunpinyin-utils during build. No bugs in Debian, looks ok to me.

ibus-sunpinyin: No Debian bugs; still fairly new, but well maintained so far. Uses gettext/po, fairly standard debhelper/cmake packaging.

open-gram is fine. Simple data package. I filed a sync bug 801748 for it since there is actually no delta.

Changing ibus-pinyin task to ibus-sunpinyin; I assume that's what you meant.

affects: ibus-pinyin (Ubuntu) → ibus-sunpinyin (Ubuntu)

ibus-sunpinyin seems fine too. Again, there is no actual delta (except for a mistaken dropped dependency it seems on sunpinyin-data from open-gram) so I filed sync bug 801754.

sunpinyin is mostly good. It would be nice to see a bug subscriber.

It could be sync'ed from Debian (we don't have a meaningful delta with Debian), but this package needs .symbols files for the libsunpinyin3 library. So maybe take the Debian packaging, add a .symbols file, and this can be approved.

I synced sunpinyin for now. Adding proper symbols files is a more elaborate undertaking, I first need to learn how to build and maintain per-architecture symbols files for this C++ lib.

I tried with a demangled symbols file (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sunpinyin/2.0.3-2ubuntu1), but that still failed. At this point I think the possible gain from symbols files is just not worth the pain of maintaining them, and I uploaded https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sunpinyin/2.0.3-2ubuntu2 which simply uses dh_makeshlibs -V.

Hi Martin,

Sunpinyin works find, thanks for your work.
But sunpinyin just support 9834 chinese chars, and pinyin can input 28630.
From the general user's view in China, iti's a big bug, do you think so?

If you want Qin-ubuntu be adopted by China government, support unicode CJK unified ideograph is critical.
