Bug Description

Binary package hint: sun-java6-jre

javaws use "Desktop" directory for shortcuts even when the desktop directory is "Escritorio" (Spanish locale).

I've tried version 6-06-0ubuntu1 of java-sun6-bin and java-sun6-jre and also tried jre-6u10-beta from sun site and it has the same behavior.

If my desktop directory is "/home/user/Escritorio" (es_ES) then javaws fails to create a shortcut and a menu item.

If I create the directory "/home/user/Desktop" then the shorcut is created in this directory, so I have to move it to "/home/user/Escritorio" the correct one. The menu item is not created.

the file .config/user-dirs.dirs contains the following line for desktop

XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/Escritorio"

ubuntu 8.04 updated
package version is 6-06-0ubuntu1

I also experience this problem.
Creating /home/user/Desktop directory fixes that problem, but I must move shortcut to real desktop (Pulpit in polish).

Changed in sun-java6 (Ubuntu):

I have also noticed that short-cut creation cannot be deactivated. Maybe this is another bug?

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64 with Sun-Java 6 update 20.

I recently noticed this problem on fresh Ubuntu 10.10 install with openjdk-6

I did some source lookup and it seeems that javaws uses xdg-desktop-icon util for shortcut creation.

I believe this problem is caused by bug in this util. I reported it as #664099
