I can confirm having the exact same issue. Hang after a few ripped songs and then uses 100% of one core and i have to kill it with -9

I can also confirm this. Time to failure varies considerably, can run for hours before failing. Using the KStreamripper interface, stopping and restarting the rip usually temporarily resolves the problem.

AMD Athlon64 X2; i386 Jaunty

Same here. But it happens only when there is a special character in the song title. Something like äöáô. amd64, jaunty.

I've had the same problem, not exactly sure what triggers it.

I installed the Streamripper package version 1.64.6-1 from Karmic (http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/streamripper) and had it going for days now. You can install the package right away, dependencies are met on Jaunty by default.

So I'd say push 1.64.6-1 to Jaunty and problem solved.

I've had 1.64.6-1 going for weeks now and experienced no problems whatsoever.

So is it just me or is the solution really simple?

It seems to be that easy! I had exactly the same problem and followed your hint and installed 1.64.6-1. No problems ever since!
