Synaptic won't add Ubuntu CD to the repositories - freezes

Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

I don't know what's happening, it worked good on clean Dapper, but after all of these updates, it's not working well.

Here's what happens:

I open the repositories and click "Add cdrom"

"Please insert a disc...." appears. If Ubuntu CD was in the drive before that dialogue window, Synaptic would unmount it and after pressing the "OK", it would say "Error scaning the CD" (note that "SCANING", it's without a double N - a typical spell error, looks ugly, but it's a minor issue here). Quite strange - why did it unmount at all?!

However if I put the cd AFTER "Please insert a disc", it will scan normally and unmount it in the end. After clicking "close" button, the CD will appear in the repositories. However, from now on I cannot close the Synaptic - if I do that, it will freeze.

After I restart the system, the repositories will NOT have the CD in the list.

It happened so long that I forgot the problem. I think it was Edgy...
because Feisty wasn't released in that time.

I don't have a CD drive on any relevant machine, so I can't easily test this, but... no comments in almost two years, and
no duplicates at all.

Can anyone reproduce this? If not, I suggest the bug is fixed and this report can be closed.

affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) → software-properties (Ubuntu)

I've just tried to replicate this on Lucid and there is a problem for sure. Tried opening synaptic, and sources, tried adding the disk and it fails always for me. However a manual run of "sudo apt-cdrom add" adds the same disc without issue and it shows up afterwards in Software Sources window.

If its needed I can run a live session on my desktop of Jaunty or even Hardy, and use my USB DVDRW drive that I use with my netbook, to try and add a CD with it. Not sure if this is needed to determine which release this began on.
