Bug Description
Binary package hint: software-center
Despite being able to install and working flawlessly on my other Ubuntu (Maverick) desktop PC and laptop, clamtk 4.31 (antivirus) will not install on another of my Ubuntu PCs.
I wrote to the ClamTK developer back on January 17th 2011, but he was unsure as to the cause, so I thought it important to document this bug here:
My only concern with ClamTK at the moment is that the Ubuntu Software Centre prevents me from completing an install on one of my desktop PCs.
The PC in question
Its configuration (copied from the Ubuntu System Monitor) is as follows:
Ubuntu
Release 10:10 (Maverick)
Kernel Linux 2.6.35-24-generic
GNOME 2.32.0
Hardware
Memory: 1001.7Mib
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 1.70GHz
System Status
Available disk space: 25.4 GiB
The error that displays
Requires installation of untrusted packages
The action would require the installation of packages from sources that are not authenticated.
Details
clamtk libbit-vector-perl libcarp-clan-perl libdate-calc-perl libdigest-hmac-perl libfile-
I also followed up with this further information:
I have ClamTK (4.31) installed on two other Ubuntu 10:10 PCs (only one of which I use often) and one old Toshiba laptop with no issues.
Got a similar warning when trying to install the game xBill on that PC and this one (3GHz Celeron) which makes me wonder if there is a bug in the Ubuntu Software Centre itself, offering to install packages that it decides to not support. Might not be a ClamTK issue at all but an Ubuntu Software Centre one.
IN CONCLUSION
So there seems to be an "untrusted applications" problem with software that surely, if it was actually untrusted, should not even present as available from the Ubuntu Software Centre.
More information on ClamTk, which has proven to be a marvellous application on those of my Ubuntu-only desktop and laptop PCs, on which the software centre will allow it to install, can be found at http://
