libsane 1.0.19.x does not work with Microtek Scanners

Bug Description

libsane-sm3840.so.1.0.19 does not work with Microtek Scanners. There is something wrong with the coding. Microtek owners have to uninstall 1.0.19 and replace it with lissane-sm3840.so.1.0.15 which works.

I found the "fix" at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1064489&page=3

and apparently a bug was reported

but the bug is still in libsane-sm3840.so.1.0.19 which is in the current Ubuntu 8.10 distribution under libsane extras 1.0.19.x
