Bug Description

I'm running into python3-related str/byte mismatch errors with 2017.7.4+dfsg1-1, like this:

Jinja error: a bytes-like object is required, not 'str'

Reading the 2018.3.0 release notes, it looks like a number of these errors are fixed in that release:

https://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/topics/releases/2018.3.0.html

Would it be possible to get a 2018.3.0 package built for Ubuntu 18.04?

Upgrading to 2018.3 in Ubuntu 18.04 is not possible, but you could upgrade to Ubuntu 19.04 instead. Can you please provide more details to reproduce (and fix) these Jinja errors?

I resolved this issue last year by upgrading to the 2018.3 package on repo.saltstack.com after it became available:
