Bug Description

Hi, I installed Ubuntu 20.04 (Beta) on a new partition. At first, everything worked okay. Then I did my standard scripts after a fresh install like creating users, installing apps (like sambe, ...) etc. Then, after a while the whole desktops freezes. But the computer disc LED is on, so I do not reset the "crashed" thing. I notice that every once in a while (every few minutes) the computer proceeds for a split second. After many many minutes it is back to "normal" just to "freeze" again after a few seconds/minutes.

I managed to open a terminal to identify the process: it is "mx-extract". This is a process of the package "rygel" which is something like UPNP Server. I wonder if this process is somehow scanning my whole 2 TB data to somehow look for files to UPnP to the net???

Anyway: i had to uninstell rygel

   sudo apt remove rygel

to get this problem "solved" (... worked around).

This is a major bug in Ubuntu 20.04 (Beta) that "freezes" the whole computer!

Thank you for your bug report. What session do you use? Did you enable file sharing in the privacy settings controls?
Could you add you 'journalctl' log from a session which had the issue?
Also was it having problems on specific content?

Yes, I enabled file sharing. DOn't know about "journalctl". I also don't know whjat you mean with "session". It just happens - without doing anyithing or doing anything (that also has nothing to do with files or network.

So, after 3 months of UBuntu 20.04 updates, I tried installing Rygel again ... the same bug still exists: it does not take long and the computer almost freezes. EVerything in extreme slow motion. I managed to open the process overview:

Process "rygel" occupies most of the CPU!

One more info: after I managed to get into a terminal and do "sudo apt purge rygel", one message appeared " ... out of memory ..." and showed in 2 attributes about 30 GB ... I have 32 GB RAM ...
