I've attempted to follow the solution, but it has not worked for me. I still need to boot form v4.10 instead of v4.13

Might be a silly question, but did you try installing driver why running kernel v4.10 instead of v4.13? I have plugged in the network cable, booted to v4.13 and installed rtl driver. Rebooted. This worked for me, although this way after each kernel upgrade manual installation will be needed (again).

I downloaded the driver while using kernel v4.10 and booted in v4.13 and followed the steps. no success. also no ethernet port.
