Up-to-date 14.04 (Trusty) desktop installation (64bit), used "enable 3rd party software" when installing
Testcase: Using rhythmbox to extract audio tracks from a audio CD into the library as mp3. The GUI shows several profiles (default, ubuntu, vbr, cbr).
Regardless of the profile, this always produces VBR encoded MP3 files which also lack Xing header information which will lead to incorrect runtime display on some players. I believe the problem lies in the gstreamer filters used and rhythmbox is just one of the applications affected. The problem exists for quite a while now, though older releases would sometime not even have any profiles selectable in the GUI. |
