Bug Description

Ubuntu 8.04
After todays (5. Sep 2008) subversion update rapidsvn crashes constantly when trying to add files to a repository.

Subversion version: 1.5.1dfsg1-1ubuntu2~hardy1
Rapidsvn version: 0.9.4-3

The only error message I get from command line is "Segmentation fault" and nothing else.

It seems quite clear that libsvn 1.5.1 is not binary compatible with libsvn 1.4.x.

This means that all the programs depending on libsvn should also be added to hardy-backports.
(could be a problem for kdesvn since KDE4.1 is the default in 8.10)

I compiled kdesvn 1.0.1 against the new libsvn and that worked.

A temporary fix is just to downgrade the client side to an older version.

Repositories that have been edited with version 1.5.x will be unaccessible, but new (or old) repositories work perfectly.

I resolved this simply by switch apt sources to intrepid and downloading 0.9.6 from there. There were only 2 or 3 dependencies that installed without a hitch. No more segfaults.

This is a really nasty bug for LTS, effectively killing all SVN GUIs. I just tested with svn-workbench today and the segfaults continue.

Switching sources to intrepid and trying to install rapidsvn caused apt to ask for a number of large system utilities like libc6 so I decided to forgo it. FWIW, doing an '''apt-get source rapidsvn''' from intrepid followed by '''debuild''' produced working deb files. So another vote for backporting the more recent versions to Hardy and a solution for any other hardy users that don't want to pull in dependencies from intrepid. You will of course need debuild and other build tools but, if you don't yet have that setup, dpkg and apt will tell you what dependencies you're missing as you go.

this bug hit me jan. 1 2009.
thank you for the instruction to use
aptitude remove subversion
to downgrade - it worked.

could somebody please backport the additional packages which depend on libsvn 1.5.1 and subversion.
the update manager proposes to upgrade again (which will create the problem with rapidsvn again).

thank you!

The bug is in the package libsvn1 version 1.5.1dfsg1-1ubuntu2. One solution is to use the version 1.4.6:
Uninstall the current version. Use the option force version for install the version 1.4.6. After, use block version option. For end, install the packages of rapidsvn or subversion.

Maybe this bug could be marked as "Fix Released" since there is solution available and the problem does not exist in later releases...
