extracting strings from KDE *.ui files to the POT doesn't work, and needs intltool support

Using python-distutils-extra version 2.9 under Karmic. I am trying to get my Qt designer UI file to provide it's message strings for the translation template (pot).

According to Martin Pitt (pitti), this should work automatically, but it does not appear to be the case.

I have both a gtk and kde ui for in this project, and the gtk one works as expected, but the kde ui file is not parsed nor are any of the message strings merged into the generate pot file.
