I suppose this is two errors in one - my apologies.
Selecting the 'trayicon' plugin displays:
Name: trayicon
Author: unknown
Version: unknown
Blurb: An error occurred while trying to load this plugin's information.

The trayicon plugin requires a part written in C and compiled to trayicon.so . I can see there are no .so files in the package.
What's funny, I had to move the .so file and chnage the path in trayicon.py to make the version downloaded from the pympd home page work...
