Bug Description
On Asus EEE PC 1000HE running 9.10.
Upon opening new sound files (*.mp3s in my case) with totem, the sound level in gnome-volume-
If I leave the volume control in totem at 100%, there doesn't seem to be any change in the volume in gnome-volume-
The change in the volume occurs when opening a file (executing totem, in my case).
I don't think this is a totem-specific issue, since I had this problem with Audacious as well (before it was removed on a partial distribution upgrade).

I can confirm this behavior on my system with a Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02). Volume decreases with every new audio/video file using totem or audacious.
I attached a video demonstrating this.
