kboot loader fails with "/dev/pts failed" and other errors

i'm installing (i think for the 4th time) ubuntu 8.10 with the cd image on location http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/8.10/release/ to my PS3 (system version 2.36)

i'm not mentioning all the futile efforts since two days, eventually, i can't run this os on ps3. it keeps giving errors .

the error looks like that :

No default root fs was found, or one was found and it didn't contains a
message= config file.

/mnt/root/.

Reasons this may have happened include:
 - No drive with a rootfs was actually found.
 - Your rootfs does not have the correct volume label of "/"
 - Your rootfs is corrups (use the rescue CD to fix this).

kboot: _

in SH, even the "whoami" doesn't work, it gives : "/bin/sh: whoami: not found"

but "fdisk -l" works and outputs: (non of them is flagged as boot)

and "mount" doesn't return any output (it runs)

"df" doesn't return any output (it runs)

"cat /etc/fstab" returns that output;
LABEL=/ / auto defaults
LABEL=BOOTMC / auto
/dev/sr0

i'm sure that's a bug, cause, i'm sure i'm doing everything as it is described in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PlayStation_3 (my version is 8.10 , i know, but there is no difference in installation or any screen that i can change the way it installs...)

btw, "lsb_release -rd" doesn't work either..
