Bug Description

I own a Primax Coloradao 1200p, supported by this package accoding to the primax.sourceforce website
I've installed it,ran in in normal mode, and it asked me to activate either ecp+epp mode (i did, told me to do the same)
or epp mode (which i've just done, but the command this time outputs absolutely nothing, and just hangs.

Is this normal? Is there a way to restart the project which seems frozen?
There's a bunch of us on the ubuntu-fr.org forums which have the same problem as it was sold a lot in France on a huge sale.

I've just compiled this from upstream for a friend and tried the version in ubuntu. Both versions have the same problem.
I can definitely confirm this. Hard freeze!

You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I can confirm this bug in the newest Hardy Ubuntu. On some computer it just work and on another there is some issue. In spite of all I don't think many people still using this scanners but it will be really great if it will just work.

Can anybody confirms that this bug still exists under Ubuntu 9.04/Jaunty Jackalope? Also, chipset information might be useful if it's a parallel port issue.

Still have the scanner ready for testing, but my parallel port PC died.
I'm pretty sure the bug remains though. I'm based in Paris.

I own a 'Network Scanny' and had the same problem on Xubuntu 8.10.
I followed this guide:
http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=198434
I solved with the command:
$ sudo chmod 777 /dev/parport0
Hopes this helps.
Best regards,
Paolo

I have the same problem in MINT Helena 8 (Ubuntu 9.10).
In BIOS i switched to ECP, then did command as a root:

primaxscan -l on, then I got message:

This Port does not support the EPP-Mode
Please activate EPP-Mode or
ECP-Mode with included EPP-mode!

The activated and detected Modis are:
SPP-Port present
PS2-Port present
ECP-Port present.

There are no problems in Win Xp. I have no more patience to fight on.

Sław.

I can confirm seeing this same error message with a Primax Colorado scanner on current Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I will change the parallel port mode in the BIOS and retry.
