There are no user-friendly way to start pppoeconf in Ubuntu

Created an attachment (id=5302)
Updated pppoeconf launcher (pppoeconf.desktop) for gnome-panel's
System->Adminstration menu.

I'm hesitant to add a text-based configuration tool to the desktop menu; I think the right solution for this is for gnome-system-tools to learn how to configure pppoe

It seems you have read my bugreport not accuratelly, so I'm pasting some sentences from the bugreport:
Also you should add xdialog package to ubuntu main (and change xdialog dependancy from suggests to recommends) or, better, patch pppoeconf to use zenity.

When xdialog is installed then pppoeconf becomes not text-based, but graphical configuration tool, so I'm suggesting to add attached pppoeconf launcher and decide what to use - Xdialog or Zenity in Ubuntu Dapper, because it seems there are not enough time to teach gnome-system-tools how to configure pppoe.
If you don't have enough time to patch pppoeconf to use zenity I could try to help :)

It would need to be ported to zenity, otherwise it drags in gtk1.2

Is there any progress on this bug? I think that this is actually very important since if ubuntu wants to be desktop distribution then it should have easy GUI for pppoe since majority off home users probably use ADS to connect to net. Accordingly to that uregency should be higher for it.

Not that I know of - if someone steps up it may be done. But it's not a
5-minute job.

In my country there are these "time based" ADSL services (20 hours per month for a fee, etc.). I would sugest a way to control the ADSL PPPoE conection under the GUI (GNOME, KDE, XFCE... In that order :). It would be useful to, the option for dial-on-demand in a easy way in this (let's say) GNOME apllet.

This should really be moved into a spec now. The list of ideas and solutions is growing too large to be ever resolved through a bug report. I'm going to close the bug report for now and relaly hope, everybody will join the specification process.

Please, don't close Baltix GNU/Linux bugs, opened by main Baltix developer :)

Btw, Ubuntu 6.06 pppoeconf has big problems, when xdialog is installed, IndustrialTango gtk2 theme is selected and industrial gtk1 theme (package gtk-engines-industrial) isn't installed.
In this case Gtk-WARNING **: messages about missing libindustrial.so are put into ppp config file (dsl-provider) and because of this ppp doesn't start :(
Should I report a bug about this against pppoeconf or against xdialog package ?

Adomas, could you check if new network-admin (System->Administration->Network) from Baltix 3.x/Ubuntu 8.04 configures connection correctly wihen using Teo DSL internet provider with PPPoE protocol ? Also check if you can configure PPPoE connection with network-manager-applet or nm-connection-editor (System->Preferences->Network...) from Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.10.
Please write connection tests results for all 3 Ubuntu versions.
I wanna move "ADSL/PPPOE configuration" launcher from "System->Administration" to some other place, to Debian menu or to "Programs->System tools", but before this move we should be sure, that new network-manager connection editor is user-friendly enough and works correctly
