Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

While upgrading from 10.04 to Maverick Beta (10.10) on a desktop, I was presented with a requirement to configure postfix. I believe that:
 1. this shouldn't happen, and
 2. If for some reason it is necessary, then it needs to be better explained/presented. Most users won't know what postfix is, or how to configure it, and there are only "forward" and "back" options (i.e,. no option to cancel). Technical users will feel confident clicking through, but I think most users will be confused/scared by it.

I was able to confirm this now on a Jessie cloud server via "sudo dpkg-reconfigure postfix". This will trigger a debconf question. It seems the Debian postfix maintainers consider the question important enough and without a sane default to show this to the user, in line with the Debian Policy.

https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/best-pkging-practices.html#bpp-config-mgmt
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/xenial/man7/debconf-devel.7.html (under "INPUT priority question")

This looks like "by design" to me.

It would be interesting to understand why your desktop had a full-blown postfix MTA installed. That's a bit unusual. If this is still the case, can you please show the output of "aptitude why postfix"?
