It is a complex bug involving udev (in the intramfs) and the plymouth code...
There are a couple of patches/fixes but none of them works properly actually (for me at least)...
The plymouth-9999 has some of the patches incorporated but it doesn't work too at present.
Here is a thread that discusses one of the problems (at least mine) - the new ply seat handling in plymouth...
