Binary package hint: plasma-
N-M in kde asks for all the details of the 3g dongle as if it were a phone. Image below shows what I mean.
How many people know the number to their dongle not many I'm guessing.

Gnome's equivalent is far easier in that you get a drop down selection of providers and you select the options that apply to you and your set up
