discover update not asking for password

Bug Description

Since a few weeks ago, when there are updates, the DISCOVER program open and offers a list.

After selecting to update, the window for entering the password DOES NOT OPEN. The process just freezes.

My system is :
  KUBUNTU 18.04

In order to actually install the updates, I must end the dicover program using SYSTEM MONITOR, then press updatr again. Then it usually works as expected.

I just tried to un
  su dpkg --configure -a
but got:
  u: unrecognized option '--configure'

what to do?

can't even open synaptic.

ok - did
 dpkg --configure -a
after fixing root password.

Now discover did the updates.

Exactly the same behavior as described in thirst post. Found also 3 other user describing the same on forum.ubuntu-fr.org.
Additionally I must say that sometimes it works properly

affects: okular (Ubuntu) → plasma-discover (Ubuntu)

This issue seems to have been fixed (never append again since at least 1 month)
