Bug Description

Binary package hint: pitivi

If you import a video clip for which gstreamer cannot find all plugins, a dialog is (sometimes) presented asking whether to search. If you select to search and the search fails, the clip will not be imported at all. If you click cancel the clip will be imported using the parts of the stream which can be played. Sometimes the dialog is not shown and the import fails instantly.

Example: A video clip with subtitles. Gstreamer cannot find the subtitle decoder and so it will not allow you to use the audio/video parts of the stream.

Does this still happen with pitivi 0.13.4.3?

With v0.13.5 a failed search for subtitle decoder will prevent the entire clip from being used. Cancelling the search allows the clip to be used. I have not observed the silent failures.
