Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

You need to have both firefox and pidgin installed for the following test case. You also need a working Yahoo Account configured in pidgin.

1) start pidgin but log out of your Yahoo account
2) click on one of the YMSGR links on the right side of http://www.cdrking.com

A firefox window should pop up and suggest purple-url-handler to handle this link (unless you've set that as the default already). When you confirm this choice, nothing happens, no feedback given to the user.

3) log into your Yahoo account in Pidgin
4) repeat step 2

Now a message window will open for you to type text. The user in step number 2 should be warned that no active Yahoo account was found.

NOTE: I am specifically not reporting this upstream (yet) since I have no way to verify the problem with the latest upstream release.

Thanks for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. Sorry we don't always have the resources to get to every bug report.

Thanks for providing a detailed test case. Can you still reproduce on a supported Ubuntu release?

Hello, thanks for stepping in.

I can't verify because the problem has gotten only worse. FF no longer understands the protocol at all, even though libpurple-bin is installed and "gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/ymsgr/command" returns purple-url-handler "%s". Nonetheless, Firefox complains that "The address wasn't understood. Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (ymsgr) isn't associated with any program or is not allowed in this context."
