Feature request: add number of unread messages in the Unity Launcher entry of Pidgin

I am working on a implementation of this request: lp:~jfi/pidgin-libnotify/fix-for-bug-733915
but it is not yet finished

I have created a PPA for my patch: ppa:jfi/pidgin

There is one known bug: the counter is visible after quitting pidgin.

I switch the status to "Confirmed" as somebody is also affected.

With Unity (beta) the counter is turned off after quitting Pidgin unlike my previous test few weeks ago with Unity-2d + VirtualBox. I don't know yet if the bug was in Unity-2d only or has been fixed (I did not change the code of the patch).

Counter will also count all the messages you sent after the last message that was sent to you. This is probably wrong. :)

@David, while sending a message, the conversation window has got the focus, so it is not take in consideration while computing the global number of unread unity message. Anyway, the conversation counter is not set to 0 which may cause an issue later when the window is no more focused. It will be nice if I can validate that your issue is this one. Could please start pidgin with 'pidgin -d|grep libnotify' and send me by email (<email address hidden>) the output after reproducing your scenario? Thanks for your help.

New patch which refresh the unity counter when conversation window gets the focus

This didn't make it into Oneiric by the looks of things. (a) is there a plan to get this into a release? (b) what's the process for applying this patch for Oneiric? Many thanks.

Okay, I just tested this on Oneiric. Looks like the counter's all wrong (what is it counting, really? I had one unread message from one conversation, but it showed 3), but apart from that it seems to work.

I still want this to be added as feature - what is the problem so far?
