The openvas-nvt-sync script is broken.
You can manually download the .nas rules from http://
Be warned, that tar ball is not packaged well and will extract hundreds of files into your current directory. Many of the files are no used on LInux (I don't think). I copied only the *.nas rules to /var/lib/
