Bug Description

KGS cgoban3 client remains silent on my box after release upgrade from 10.04 to .10.

I was used to this error when other programs such as firefox showed via sound preferences -> applications they were using some (which? -- libasound?) sound resource. Shutting down those programs sound resource claims remedied the situation. Now, even on an empty applications list and on a xterm-only-session, Java refuses to emit sounds. This is true for both now Sun's and OpenJDK's flavor.

Sounds in general and via aplay work as expected.

Oracle's Java Sound Demo works, therefore it seems to be an application issue, though I wonder why a release upgrade might break a sound API -- maybe a deprecated one?

Because sound broke in both flavors, I wonder if it is really due to a deprecated API.
