Can't copy from java applications

Bug #508175 reported by Saverio Miroddi
This bug affects 5 people
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
openjdk-6 (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

With my java applications, NetBeans and SquirrelSQL, I can't copy text from the application to any other external application (e.g. terminal, gedit).
I can do the reverse operation though - e.g. copy text from the terminal to squirrel sql.

I can (unfortunately) reproduce it everytime - in fact, I can't copy any text from the Java applications.

Interesting behavior.

Just opened gedit after having copied some text from a java app (netbeans); the entry "paste" in the menus is disabled, but if I type the combination "Ctrl+V", the text is actually pasted.
In terminal, the "paste" entries are disabled, and the combination "Ctrl+Shift+V" doesn't work either.

is this seen as well when running the java application using sun-java6?

I confirm that when changing the java environment to sun-java-6 (64 bit), the problem doesn't sussist (using squirrel-sql as test case).

Not sure how related it is, but using glipper, openjdk was copy/pasting from java apps to gedit (but not to the terminal).

Still happens in Ubuntu 11.04 64bit, reproduced with Scilab 5.3. It is a very annoying bug, as copying to clipboard is a very basic operation.
