eclipse crash on pango_layout_new+0x36

Bug Description
Hello,
To crash eclipse, all I have to do is:
1. Start eclipse ("eclipse" from the terminal)
2. Open the "New Project" dialog, by clicking file->new->project
3. Press Esc.
Eclipse crashes, and I get this message:

(The warning line appears during eclipse startup, so it's probably irrelevant.)

I'm using ubuntu 9.10, eclipse 3.5.1+repack~

The same thing happened after I switched the default JRE to sun's:
