Dell E153Fpf 15" monitor not supported for native resolution

I am on Ubuntu 9.10.
This is a feature request.

I am using a Dell E153FPf 15" lcd monitor and it is not being recognized, so it defaults to a very low resolution compared to the native resolution. 640 X 480 and 800 X 600. The native resolution is 1024 X 768 @ 60 Hz. I was able to get it working at that resolution with the xrandr utility but that was painful learning it and an upgrade is likely to require the time to do it again.
Here are the lines I used along with the specifications for the monitor that I am hopeful will allow you to incorporate support in a subsequent release.

gtf 1024 768 60 (returns)
modeline "1024x768_60.00" 64.11 1024 1080 1184 1344 768 769 772 796 -Hsync +Vsync

crt 1024 768 60 returns a slighly different set of numbers. I used the above though. But here is the results of that one:
modeline "1024x768_60.00" 63.50 1024 1072 1176 1328 768 771 775 796 -hsync +vsync

Vertical scan range 56 Hz to 76 Hz (automatic)

Optimal preset resolution 1024 x 768 at 60 Hz

Highest preset resolution 1024 x 768 at 75 Hz
