Vsync not working with nvidia & dual monitors

For the record, this is a dual monitor issue and not a compiz/driver issue. After disabling one of the monitors, vsync works fine on the other one.

This problem still exists in Lucid. I have a 1680x1050 and a 1280x1024. Both are plugged into an nVidia 9500 GT. One with a DVI cable, the other with a VGA->DVI converter (the small monitor doesn't support DVI). Both Monitors are acer. I have the default nvidia drivers installed (the one from Jocky). And the monitors are set up in twin view. Compiz is running (it needs to be for Docky). There is noticeable tearing (vsync issue) while dragging windows, watching movies, or anything else, on the second screen (1280x1024 left of primary display). The primary display shows no problems at all.

Hope there is a fix for this soon.

OK. Fixed. Sort of. I borrowed a monitor for testing purposes. The monitor had DVI and VGA inputs. I replaced my second monitor with this one using the DVI connection. Basically you should not get video tearing on either screen if you use DVI on both monitors. I have been trying to figure this one out for 2 months and read every forum and thread even remotely connected to vsync on dual head setups. I'm pissed that the answer was so damn simple.

So, at the time of this post, the only way to get a decent dual head setup on Linux is this:
1) single nVidia video card with 2 DVI out ports
2) 2 LCD monitors with DVI inputs (preferably identical monitors; same native resolution and refresh rate)
3) nVidia's drivers (so u can use nvidia-settings)
4) compiz-fusion (optional I guess but metacity tears on all screens for me)

Is this issue still occuring in Oneiric or Precise?

I'll add some informations I think could be useful.

My conf :
Kubuntu 13.10, KDE+Openbox (no compiz), Geforce 8400 GS, Nvidia driver 304.88.
Two screens : Primary : Idek Iiyama PL2206W on DVI, 1680x1050@59.95Hz
Secondary : Samsung SyncMaster on VGA, 1280x1024@60.02Hz

I can see clearly tearing in VLC. But what's interesting is that I can see tearing in the primary monitor and not the secondary if the output of VLC is set to GLX, and I can see tearing on the secondary monitor but not the primary if the output is set to XVideo.

I also confirm this.

My conf:

Ubuntu 12.04
GeForce GT 640 with 4 video outputs: 1xVGA, 2xDVI, 1xHDMI
Have 3 connected LCDs: 2 identical - via DVIs, and one different - via 1xVGA.
Video drivers: 304.116
In KDE settings all refresh rates are set to the same 60Hz (But monitors' OSD report more precise values 59.xxx)

Tearing happens on both DVI-connected LCD's and does not happen on VGA-connected one.
