Mh, so perhaps it's not solved correctly or I'm seeing another bug.

Installed karmic 64 yesterday with all updates.
Tried nvidia-185 and 190 from ppa -> no sound

ctrl-alt-f1 -> sound works
ctrl-alt-f7 -> silence again

faked edid as in
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Configuring_Analog_Sound_DVI_to_HDMI
problem solved.
