i have an msi AE2010 all in one pc, i dont see the task bar or panle in ubuntu on the top or left side, i install the nividi to fix the problem but i dont know is this right,

i dont see the task bar, on the left side or ont the top the panel , i install the nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 to fix the problem but i dont konow is it right, i hane an msi all in one PC AE2010

I have just experienced this bug. The linked duplicate bug is for a different version of the drivers (duplicate is 331, this is for 173).

I'm on a fresh install of 14.04.2 with a Macbook Pro 3,1 (late 2007). The reason I'm trying to install legacy nvidia drivers is I can't get the newer/current nvidia binaries to boot on this laptop (gpu is g84m).

Brian is right.
The version the duplicate flag was linked to affected the nvidia-331 and it is fixed there only.

Currently this bug is still present in the 173.14.39 package of the legacy nvidia drivers and is not fixed.

The compile process stops with these errors in the /var/lib/dkms/nvidia-173/173.14.39/build/make.log

There is already a patch available -thanks to Alberto - but it just seems not to be backpropagated into 14.04 for whatever reason.

For the testers: I went to the /usr/src/nvidia-173-173.14.39 directory and edited the nv-linux.h file.

At around line 213 of that file I pasted the "#include <acpi/acpi_bus.h>" line of the patch below the "#define NV_LINUX_ACPI_EVENTS_SUPPORTED" like described in the patch of the link in #7:

#endif

Then as root a "dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-173" which produced the following output:
